Integration: Balance of Being
© August 2000 Renée Deakin

BE- ing means accepting and embracing all parts of ourselves: yin/yang, dark/light, maleness/femaleness. However bitter the quest may seem at the time, our darker sides are a part of us and must be acknowledged.

This is particularly important for those of us who feel guilt over tendencies and habits in ourselves that we don't like. We reach a transformation where we can no longer turn our backs and pretend they aren't there. Sooner or later it's essential that we pull out these things that we've been hiding away for so long - pull them out of the dark, dank corners of the dungeon and let the Light shine on them, warm them, soften them. Monsters aren't so ugly when Light shines on them.

Once this process begins, integration begins to happen. The fragmented self becomes one, and balance IS.

When we look at ourselves with such honesty and willingness, we find a new awareness. Once aware of what we are DO-ing and BE-ing, we can no longer claim ignorance. It becomes not only easier to own up to what we do or what we are, we actually want to claim responsibility for ourselves. Realization that we have worth and purpose and reason. EMPOWERING!

We can sometimes be afraid of responsibility, because - what if we mess up? Oh, the horror if I should make mistakes or errors in judgement! Not only is this attitude based in fear, but it's also a very selfish act. This is the basis of the fear of success and failure.

The key is returning to core awareness, remembering my place within the realm of the Universal Oneness. Remembering that there is a reason each of us is here. Remembering that what seems like a demon now could actually be a benefit in future, provided I allow integration to happen within.

To deny my talents, gifts or identity is to rip off myself and others in the Big Scheme of Things. A truly selfish act, to say the least.
