Giving From The Heart
What Love is Really About
© April 2002 Renée Deakin

It is given to you, so you will give it away.

There is peace in feeling useful, understanding the interconnectedness of all be-ings, feeling the power of interdependence, and the joy of giving, not for the good feeling it brings, but for the deeper yet simpler knowledge that you are Be-ing at One with the Universe... with Spirit... with God/dess.

Giving from the core of the soul offers transcendence into a state of Be-ing, of newness, of gentleness and Love.

Self-centeredness disappears into profound Wisdom.

As the tides ebb and flow, so does our awareness and our capacity for Openness to Giving. There are times for introspection and times for stretching out our arms in unconditional celebration of Life. These times of opening and softening are the most power-full moments for helping others...

Carpe Diem!

Such is the circle of life. As we travel the Sacred Wheel, it is taught that all things are related. We do not walk alone; isolation is an illusion. We are always connected to the Divine, thus to each other.

As I listen around me, I hear the call to help. The call comes in different ways, in different situations, but is always loud and strong. I reflect awhile on what it means to share with others on a heart-level, offering warm spirit-connection and gentleness from the depths of the soul.

There are times for receiving - times when we've had to ask for help for ourselves. We've needed to reach out with quietness and humility, trusting that the Universe will provide. In accepting help freely, we open ourselves to the gift to giving in return.

When the time comes that we are presented with the opportunity to help another, we're then able to experience it fully - reaching out to others' outstretched hands and allowing the Universe to provide through us in whatever way is needed, in honour of the balance in nature. It is in acknowledging this wisdom that we begin to understand true Love through giving.

When you are called by the Universe to help, pause for a moment, long enough to feel the softness in your heart melting away any question of whether you are worthy or able to assist. Simply trust that you have all that is needed, and go to help with all of your heart. Allow yourself to be trusted. Be trustworthy. If we are questioning ourselves or our ability to help, we are questioning the wisdom of the Universal Oneness.

It's not necessary to question others' motives in asking for help. Each one of us is wholly and fully deserving of the gift of giving and receiving, without question or condition. Each of us is no better or worse than others - we are ultimately all made up of the same stuff. None of us has right to judge whether another is worthy of receiving. We simply offer with hearts open.

Helping only for the sake of attaining that 'warm fuzzy' feeling for oneself later is counter-productive. In doing so, we are expecting something in return, which turns the act of giving away from the true nature of random acts of kindness and into one of selfish motives.

Giving of oneself, truly and selflessly, means keeping no score, expecting nothing in return, and not judging our own or others' worthiness. True kindness is unconditional, requires no judgement, and comes from a place of simply knowing one's connectedness with All that is around us. It is the natural order of things.

We are all part of the Great Wheel.
